1 Gallon Copper Measure with Lead Stamp
$275.00
A rare one gallon haystack measure or ale pitcher.
British Imperial Standards, passed late in the 19th Century, ensured no one would be cheated. To ensure that measures of all sizes and uses were of standard size, they were marked with a lead verification stamp. For measures having long-term usage, more than one stamp can be found, thus exhibiting how diligently the British system of weights & measures was enforced.
The lead stamp on this measure depicts a crown & the letters VR, from the time of Queen Victoria.
In excellent condition with few dents.
